The euphoria surrounding the ascendancy of Barack Obama and the massive global interest in his Presidential inauguration, reveals our dependency on a new leader to solve our many problems. President Obama is a genuine, decent and highly capable human being. But research reveals that the global economic crisis affecting every man, woman and child on this tiny planet was caused by gross irresponsibility arising from runaway greed on the part of American banks and other professionals. While the spider is still active, sweeping cobwebs away is futile. The human heart is the ‘spider’. The human heart is the root cause of all the problems that plague all of us. The Bible describes the human heart as “deceitful and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9). The Gospel of Jesus offers us a new heart. If there was nothing wrong with our physical birth there would be no need for the spiritual re-birth Jesus offers us (John 3). Accept it for the great gift that it is. Follow the values of Jesus and see how your world will become an infinitely better place. Don’t look to new Presidents to solve the problems created by our corrupt hearts. Turn your eyes on Jesus!
